Decor Inspiration for the Holidays

|

Our favorite time of the year is here! It’s the best season for giving and also decorating! The holiday season is a time for gathering with loved ones to celebrate and create memories. This year will be a wonderful moment to cherish, whether that includes family, friends, entertainment, or just your own family. For the majority of us, that entails hosting more friends and relatives in our house than during any other time of the year. Do you have guests over for the holidays? Even though all of us enjoy planning our favorite holiday customs, nothing is more memorable than a beautifully decorated home that is warm and welcoming for all of our special guests. While you wait, we've gathered some of our favorite holiday decorating suggestions to get you in the holiday spirit.

Table Setting Décor

The holiday-scented votives, candle holders, and candles in general make fantastic beginnings. Natural greenery, boughs, leaves, pinecones, fruit, or gourds make lovely table backgrounds. A runner can be utilized as a base for your design or to add color whether a tablecloth is present. If you wish to add more glitz, twinkling lights are another option. The table can then be used for food and beverages if you choose one statement design and keep the rest of the decor plain. To create a whimsical yet unified look for your table that is ideal for a holiday event, balance all of the red and green with some timeless black and white accents.

Living Area Décor

With a few easy touches, you can make your living space incredibly inviting and enjoy the festive season. A plush area rug may enhance the ambiance of your living space and add comfort. They undoubtedly create a sense of coziness, whether they are handwoven or more shag-like. What is there to dislike about this traditional Christmas house? There is much to enjoy about this straightforward festive living room, from the evergreen encircling the ceiling chandelier to the sofa covered with Christmas throw pillows. Put a sprig of your favorite foliage in the bottom of your hurricane vases to add a subtly festive touch.

Kitchen Décor

On the wall(s) above the counter, hang a wreath or some fresh foliage. Add new towels next, either in festive hues or those that match your kitchen. Potholders for the holidays are a delightful accent. Another option is open shelving. Displaying your holiday plates, platters, bowls, and glasses in this location is ideal. It won't just look festive; it will also make it simple to get to these things when you need them. Instead of keeping with the traditional red and green, use ribbons that go with the existing color scheme. If your serving pantry leads into the kitchen, don't forget to decorate it for the holidays as well.

Preparing your Hardwood Floors for Holiday Foot Traffic

|

The season for parties and family gatherings is here! Have you thought of your Holiday decorations for your home? Getting our homes ready is one of the most essential tasks on our Holiday to-do list. Preparing your wood flooring is something that frequently gets overlooked among all the carol singing, parties, and gift-buying. Many people observe a large increase in foot traffic during the Christmas season's commotion. With all the increased traffic, spills, and moving decorations from room to room, your flooring is set to suffer during the holidays as well.

Prior to the start of the holiday festivities, prepare your home by maintaining your floors and making the necessary upgrades. Let's start by understanding how to perform the necessary prep work to make your floors ready for the holidays when there is increased traction in your house or workspace.

Routine cleaning

For hardwood floors, a routine sweep with a broom or dust mop works wonders. Increase the frequency with which you mop, vacuum, or perform other floor cleanings to ensure that your floors maintain their finest appearance throughout the season. You will have a solid foundation going into the holiday season if you accomplish this. Additionally, a solid base stops dust and other particles from scraping and damaging your floors when there is a lot of foot traffic. Keep cleaning materials close hand when hosting holiday parties, especially when having a lot of guests.

Regulate indoor temperature

For instance, blocked vents will allow air to circulate to your home's largest room, which is typically the living room. Blinds, curtains, or shutters may be an excellent choice if you're searching for a simple solution to control the temperature in your home. If you want to strike a balance between being warm and avoiding floor damage, think about running a humidifier in your house to preserve moisture in the air.

Refinish every 5 to 7 years

You might be worried that it's time to repair your hardwood flooring if you notice scuffs and scratches in it. Fortunately, refinishing your floors frequently will be enough to bring back their previous brilliance. Now is the time to refinish your hardwood floors if you haven't done so in the last five to seven years to prevent further damage. After all imperfections have been fixed, fresh stain and a shielding top coat will be applied to keep your freshly finished floors safe from further harm.

Safeguard your floors with area rugs

A decorative area rug is one of the simplest methods to shield wood floors from scuffs and other harm. Your area rugs are held in place by these flimsy, slightly adhesive coverings placed underneath them. Both your family and friends and your hardwood floor are safeguarded from harm by these mats. An area rug can be a gorgeous rug that really unifies a space in addition to all the functional advantages. You can do this gently with neutral color schemes, or you can make a statement with something bold and patterned.

It's the Month for Different Carpet Types

The best day to chill out is just around the corner! National Relaxation Day is celebrated annually on August 15. This day encourages people to unwind and relieve stress through meditation and other relaxation techniques. Aiming to relax this August? One of the most relaxing flooring types you can have in your home is carpet flooring. Carpet can also transform a space from luxurious and elegant to casual and comfortable. Carpet, in addition to being comfortable to walk, sit, and lay on, absorbs shock due to its flexibility and cushioning. This means that carpet is not only more comfortable to the touch, but it is also easier on the body when walking for extended periods of time.

Nylon

Today, nylon is used to make the majority of carpet types. This particular carpet type is incredibly soft, strong, and scratch- and stain-resistant. It has sturdy fibers that hold their shape easily, preserving the carpet's original appearance for a longer period of time. These carpets are the most durable made of synthetic fibers and, with proper care, can last 12 to 15 years. Most importantly, nylon is impervious to mold and mildew, making it an excellent fiber to take into account when choosing the best flooring for basements.

Polypropylene (Olefin)

Polypropylene fibers also referred to as olefin, are comparable to natural wool and are frequently used as a synthetic wool substitute. Because of this, it is a fantastic option for areas that experience frequent moisture. It is frequently installed in locations with a high risk of water damage. There will be nowhere for any liquid spills to stain on this carpet. This carpet can even be bleached without affecting its color. Olefin is a low-cost carpet with outstanding stain resistance.

Polyester

Polyester is prized for holding intense, fading-resistant colors. Since polyester is a hydrophobic fiber, the liquid will not stick to it. Plastic makes up the majority of this synthetic carpet fiber's composition. Because of this, it is a fantastic option for areas that experience frequent moisture. Additionally, because it was solution-dyed, it will not fade in the sun. Polyester carpet is the best option if you want a wide variety of styles because it is available in every price range and quality level. Polyester will frequently be used in newly constructed homes as well as existing homes that are put on the market due to its price advantage.

Acrylic

A carpet made of acrylic fibers is known as an acrylic carpets. Acrylic is a synthetic material that resembles wool but is much less expensive. To improve the durability and quality of the rugs, artificial fabrics are frequently combined with natural fabrics. Static electricity, moisture, mildew, fading, and staining are all things that acrylic can withstand well.

Carpets can always turn any spot of your home into a great relaxation spot. For high-quality flooring in Utah, there’s one name you can trust. Planning For Sustainability? Flooring Check!

The Plastic-Free July campaign is a major initiative of The Plastic Free Foundation Ltd. In 2011, this movement gained traction in Australia. It is a global movement that encourages people to get involved in the fight against plastic pollution. Participants are challenged in this initiative to reduce their use of single-use plastics by eliminating one or more single-use items from their daily lives. Today, sustainability is a major motivator in the construction industry. Sustainable housing is defined as making efficient use of resources and energy while minimizing environmental impact. If a house has already been built, many improvements are required to make it more sustainable. Floors can be successfully renovated—regardless of their current condition—and efficiently maintained for long-lasting life in today's reality of new flooring trends.

Here are four factors to consider when looking for flooring that is both sustainable and healthy to help you make your decision and narrow down your options.

Think about the raw materials

As the demand for eco-friendly flooring solutions grows, it's critical to understand your options. Your flooring material should ideally be made from a renewable resource, such as wood or bamboo, which are both made from plants. Bamboo is one of the fastest-growing plants on the planet, maturing in three to five years. This means it is a highly renewable and long-lasting resource. In general, it is preferable if the material requires little modification during the manufacturing process. Furthermore, placing area rugs on your hardwood will not only protect it from wear but will also insulate your home. A few area rugs can save you 4-6% on your energy bill.

Consider the room’s function and estimated traffic

The most common surface in the built environment is flooring. The wear and tear of walking, storage, and commercial equipment on flooring should be taken into account. If you anticipate that particular space, such as a living room, will be used more frequently in your home, it may be worth investigating the installation of a more resilient and low-maintenance flooring material. The house should also be able to adapt to changing needs without incurring additional costs in the future through building extensions or renovation. A less durable floor will most likely need to be replaced more frequently.

Choose a sustainable way of installation

Flooring installation may necessitate a number of activities—cutting, sanding, and sealing—that may have an impact on indoor air quality, so it's critical to consider how your flooring will be installed. Water-based adhesives are generally superior to solvent-based adhesives. Choose companies that practice legal and sustainable forestry, resulting in more sustainable flooring, more efficient energy use, and better working conditions.

Planning for sustainability in your home can be easy and stress-free if you follow these simple tips. For high-quality flooring in Utah, there’s one name you can trust. Cupping vs. Crowning: What Causes them Both?

It's crucial to be able to quickly identify and effectively fix common issues with hardwood floors. The weather and the humidity in your home both have an impact on the amount of flooring contraction during the winter. Wood floors and engineered hardwood floors can warp and become damaged as a result of moisture or changes in humidity. These effects are referred to as "cupping," "crowning," "buckling," and "peaking." If you notice that the edges of the planks are higher than the centers, your wood floor is cupping. There will be a concave appearance to each plank.

On the other hand, the center of the board is higher than the edges when there is crowning. Wood that is raised in the middle and slopes down on the planks' long edges is referred to as crowning. You can remove obstinate flooring cupping and crowning with a little knowledge of what causes it. Continue reading and let's get going.

Common Causes of Wood Cupping

You must be aware of the typical causes of floor cupping if you want to solve the issue. Fibers make up wood, and water takes up space when it absorbs it. Cupping happens when the subfloor's moisture content—the moisture beneath your floors—is significantly higher than the moisture above. There is hope for restoring your floor to normal if you catch cupping early and can address the moisture problem, which can be caused by anything from pipe leaks to a still-wet concrete slab to improper HVAC usage.

Common Causes of Wood Crowning

A common issue that arises as a direct result of cupping is crowning. Crowning occurs when a plank's middle or top swells up above the rest of the regular floor level while the plank's edges contract inward toward the bottom. In the latter instance, a cupped floor was flattened and the edges of the plank were sanded down below the center after the moisture levels had returned to a tolerable level. Crowning may also develop unintentionally as a result of sanding down cupped planks before letting them completely dry.

How to fix cupping and crowning?

With time and numerous seasonal changes, this cupping will gradually lessen but might not completely disappear. Never try to fix a cupped floor until all moisture sources have been found and taken care of. Maintain the environment in accordance with the demands of the flooring manufacturer. Re-sanding and refinishing the flooring is the most popular repair option. On the other hand, if excessive humidity caused the issue, crowning floors may need to be repaired by running a dehumidifier in the space. Ventilation of the floor's underside may also be required.

Cupping and crowning are inevitable flooring problems but they can definitely be solved through some easy steps. Your flooring may be subject to them but it shouldn’t last long. Sturdy as the Soldiers

The last Monday of May signals an observance of a federal holiday to honor the great military personnel who died in the nation’s wars. Memorial Day is marked by the laying of a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia, as well as religious services, parades, and speeches across the country. Veterans' graves in local cemeteries are decorated with flags, insignia, and flowers. Even today, By far the best military in the world is that of the United States. The US military has few, if any, weaknesses in many areas. They compete in a different league than other countries' militaries. That is why in strength, nothing can compare to that the physique of an American soldier.

One might think of a military man’s strength in choosing the sturdiest flooring type that possesses great resistance to pressure. A good choice of flooring could last for decades. Here are the top five most durable flooring options for your home.

Hardwood Flooring

Hardwood floors can last a lifetime. For centuries, hardwoods such as oak have been the preferred building material. Because they are derived from slow-growing, broad-leaved trees, hardwoods are naturally more durable. This means that the timber has a higher density than softwoods, giving it greater durability and strength. You will have to wait for a long time to see changes in its strength and appearance. After approximately 25 years, you will notice fading. Hardwood floors can last a century if properly installed. A solid wood plank is exactly what it sounds like: a solid, single piece of wood. Engineered wood, on the other hand, is made up of a plywood or OSB core layer sandwiched between two layers of thin wood veneer.

Vinyl Plank

Vinyl plank, luxury vinyl, LVT, LVP—whatever you call it, this type of flooring has grown in popularity in recent years, owing to its durability. Vinyl flooring is an excellent choice for high-traffic areas of your home. Furthermore, most vinyl flooring has a wear layer on the surface that protects it from scratches and stains. The good news is that, depending on the quality and how they're installed and maintained, vinyl floors can last anywhere from 5 to 25 years.

Porcelain Tile

Porcelain tile is a subtype of ceramic tile due to its clay-based construction; however, porcelain tile has a harder construction and greater durability than non-porcelain ceramic tile varieties. Furthermore, the density of porcelain makes it one of the most scratch-resistant flooring options. These tiles absorb less than 0.5 percent of the water that ceramic and other non-porcelain tiles do. These tiles, which are less prone to breakage, will keep their lovely appearance even if you have small children or pets at home. Because porcelain tile floors are known to last for years, they are the best choice for commercial or rental properties.

Laminate

Laminate flooring is the result of a lamination process that fuses together several layers of synthetic flooring. Laminate mimics the look of hardwood or stone while also offering stain, scratch, and scuff resistance. It is made of a high-density fiberboard or plywood core, a realistic image layer, and a protective wear layer. Because of the top wear layer, laminate flooring does not typically fade as quickly or as noticeably as hardwood flooring. Depending on the quality of the flooring, laminate flooring can last anywhere from 15 to 25 years.

Listed above are flooring types that resemble the strength of our soldiers. Like them, they resist pressure and last longer than the others. These flooring types will truly show you the value of your money. It not only looks good, but it also feels good to the touch. Cherry hardwood has a fine, uniform, straight-grain texture and a smooth surface.

Marble Tile Flooring

Each marble tile is completely unique due to its natural origin. Marble is a high-end finish, which means it's used to give spaces a luxurious look, but it also lends a simple, natural look to any space. Marble flooring is also available in a variety of colors and patterns. This results in an incredible range of colors and patterns. Some Home Improvement for Dad this Father’s Day

The day of our favorite men is coming! With Father’s Day, have you thought of the best bonding activity you could do with your Dad? Or better yet, have you thought of getting housework done for him? Either of that, a simple home improvement work could be a memorable gift this Father’s Day! According to a Home Advisor poll, a third of fathers polled would prefer to have a home improvement project completed for them rather than receive a gift on Father's Day. Whatever you decide, here are five home improvement projects to commemorate Father's Day.

Get a kitchen backsplash installed

Although the kitchen is full of expensive items, the backsplash does not have to be one of them. When cooking, a backsplash protects the wall behind the sink and the counters from water splashes and food particles that may splatter on the wall. So Dad won't have to worry about stains when preparing your favorite meals! Installing a kitchen tile backsplash can improve the look and feel of your kitchen because there are so many different designs, styles, colors, and sizes available.

Install new kitchen cabinets

This may appear to be a large home improvement project, but you and Dad can do it with the help of pre-assembled or ready-to-assemble cabinets. Stacking rarely-used kitchen appliances on high shelves can make room for Dad's cooking. You can also order custom cabinetry to fit your lifestyle and aesthetic preferences. Pull-out drawers, rotating shelves, and other custom cabinetry will make moving around the kitchen much easier.

Buy and prepare for him a grill

While grilling does not completely remove fat from meats, it does cause it to melt and drip off the racks. Grilling can also help you consume fewer calories and possibly lose weight. That would be fantastic for Dad! Purchase a grill for him or upgrade his current one to one with more features. It'll be a summertime project that the whole family will enjoy. Grilling isn't just about having a good time. Grilling food can be a healthy way of life.

Get a flooring upgrade

Some things last a long time because they are effective. Carpet is one of those things when it comes to flooring. Polyester carpet fibers, on the other hand, have a reputation for matting and losing their shape. Even with professional cleaning, it does not return to normal once it has fallen down and lost its tuft. Additionally, we cannot afford to have Dad hold unto his nose to avoid inhaling the odor from your stinky carpet. So one of the best gifts you could give Dad this Father's Day is a flooring touch-up!

This Father’s Day, make sure you give Dad something special around the house. Make him appreciate your home sweet home a little more! Utah Flooring & Design is a trusted flooring company in Utah with a full range of services. Baseboards, carpet, hardwood, tile, laminate, and much more. Which Is Less Expensive: Polished Concrete or Tile?

Which Is Less Expensive: Polished Concrete or Tile?

Both polished concrete floors and tile floors have their pros and cons, but keep in mind that you should choose flooring that is suitable for the room or environment where it will be installed. If you're flooring a bathroom, for example, slip resistance is a priority. When deciding on a new floor, the smoothness of your floors should top your list of considerations. Polished concrete floors and tile floors are great choices for a cool-on-your-toes flooring surface.

Tiles are less expensive than polished concrete per square foot. But polished concrete is easier to maintain and more durable, so polished concrete is generally a better value. You can polish concrete floors in a variety of ways to achieve the look you want, from a satin, low-gloss finish to a high-gloss shine. They can also be polished to achieve a colour variation achieved either by polishing natural stone or by polishing resins until they produce the desired depth of colour.

While tiles are a good choice for flooring as they’re usually inexpensive and come in many beautiful colours and patterns, you can save money by using polished concrete, which doesn’t require expensive coatings to protect it, like paint or wax. It is the most widely used domestic and commercial flooring because it is strong, easy to maintain, and can be easily polished to look like smooth marble. Polished concrete is an extremely durable and versatile material for flooring. It is resistant to staining, does not show wear easily, and is easy to clean with the proper cleaning materials.

Polished concrete floors are now available in a variety of colours and finishes, creating beautiful surfaces. Long-term, the care and upkeep is less expensive and easier. Overall, polished concrete offers greater value overall.
